What is a Post Graduation Work Permit (PGWP)
A Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) is a type of work permit that allows international students who have graduated from a Canadian post-secondary institution to gain valuable Canadian work experience after completing their studies.
To be eligible for a PGWP in Canada, an international student must meet the following criteria:
- Completed an eligible program:
The student must have completed a full-time program of study at a Canadian post-secondary institution that is at least eight months long and leads to a degree, diploma or certificate.
- Graduated from a Designated Learning Institution (DLI):
The educational institution where the student completed their program must be designated by the government to host international students.
- Have a valid study permit:
The student must have a valid study permit when applying for the PGWP.
- Apply within 180 days of graduation:
The student must apply for the PGWP within 180 days of receiving a written confirmation from the educational institution that they have met the requirements for completing their program of study.
- Meet eligibility requirements:
The student must meet all eligibility criteria for the work permit, including health and security requirements.
