Bridging Work Permit

What is a Bridging Work Permit ?

A Bridging Work Permit (BWP) is a type of work permit that allows certain individuals in Canada to continue working while waiting for a decision on their application for permanent residence. It bridges the gap between the expiry of the current work permit and the decision on the permanent residence application.

To be eligible for a BWP in Canada, an individual must meet the following criteria:

The individual must have applied for permanent residence under one of the economic immigration programs, and their application must be currently in process.

The individual must have a valid work permit that is set to expire within four months.

The individual must meet all eligibility criteria for the work permit, including health and security requirements.

The BWP is issued for a period of 12 months or until a decision is made on the individual’s permanent residence application, whichever comes first. If the individual’s permanent residence application is approved, the BWP will be canceled, and they can start working as a permanent resident.
